We had a diarrhea and dehydration epidemic this summer in our region and had to keep about a dozen patients (including babies and children) overnight, every night at our clinic. This situation existed for about a month and a half, until the epidemic subsided. The patients had to sleep on bare ground in the clinic yard. Our staff tied a long string between two trees and hanged drip bottles from it so IV could be administered. Please see photographs at right. We don't want this to happen again, because sleeping on ground invites scorpion sting and possible snake bite. Our clinic staff worked day and night during this epidemic and saved lives of many babies and young children, who are the primary victims of such epidemics. International Village Clinic was written up in the local newspapers for its exemplary service in the region. |
